Seems that SEGA will stop publishing games for adult gamers for Nintendo’s Wii. You might ask, „WHY?“
They don‘t sell. I heard that SEGA only sold 9,000 copies (sic!) of „Dead Space: Extraction“. 9,000 sold copies of a game is the lowest number of sold copies I ever heard. Everything I read about the game was quite positive. It is a rail shooter, though. The German Nintendo-only magazine N-Zone really hyped this game. But they hype everything. Especially when it is a game for gamers older than 18 years. But „DS:E“ is a prequel to the original game so it is interesting for fans of the bigger brother of it to play this one. My brother played „Dead Space“ on PS3 last weekend (I also like it) and in fact he is thinking of buying a Wii AND „Dead Space: Extraction“.
But back to SEGA. Of course the target groups of the Wii are younger or even much older than the target groups of Sony and Microsoft. And I think the group of the so-called „Core Gamers“ is much smaller on Wii just because there are much less of those so-called „Core Games“ available for the Nintendo console. So it is clear that core-games that are additionally meant for an older audience don‘t sell very well!
I understand that Wii gamers are dissapointed. SEGA always brought high-quality games and now they stop it. Just imagine that somebody who only owns a Wii (maybe because he/she is waiting for the next Zelda like me) and now only gets access to kiddy games and shitty conversions (like Ghostbusters *eek*)… the result will be that Nintendo again loses many customers. It is not too bad for Nintendo in fact, the target groups are big enough and they don‘t have to mind some lost core-gamers. But it also damages Nintendo „credibility“ and makes the kiddy-image that Nintendo still has bigger again. I am afraid of buying a Wii and Zelda Wii and then find no other games to play.
