Retro-Gameshop in Enschede (NL)

On Saturday me and a friend went to Enschede. There is a gameshop not far from the market. On the ground floor there is the normal gameshop offer, you can get the latest games for the latest consoles. But on the first floor they have the heaven on earth for retro-gamers. You can get everything from A for Atari 2600 to Z for ZX Spektrum.

You can find the shop here:

I entered the Nintendo section. As many retro-game sellers they had special offers. „3 games for 10 Euros“, „buy 3 – pay 2″, normal stuff. I set myself a limit of 30 Euros. The first thing that immediatly jumped into my face was the DMG for 9.50 Euros. I instantly fell in love with it. I also picked 3 Gameboy games:

- Super Mario Land 2: Six Golden Coins
- Kirby’s Dreamland
- The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening DX

The fun thing about this games is that I already had them when I was young. But I sold everything when I grew up because the Gameboy System wasn‘t „hip“ anymore. At the moment I‘m trying to get back all the classics I loved in my childhood. I also want to build up my Zelda collection and try to get every game on module or disc.

Still missing games:
- Majora’s Mask (I‘d love to get the Gamecube version but the disc is about 70 Euro)
- Four Swords (together with „A Link to the Past“)
- Oracle of Seasons
- Oracle of Ages

Thanks to the „buy 3, pay 2″ offer I only spent around 20 Euros for the 3 games. I also digged in the big box full of rests and found some game cases for only 1 or 2 Euros. In the end I was happy and payed around 32 Euros. My friend always joked around, I should buy some batteries and try out the Gameboy. I said I could wait until I am at home but he joked around too much, so I bought a pack of battieres and when we were back in the car I tested the DMG. It already had some batteries, so I switched it on and: the screen was broken, the buttons didn‘t react… I was shocked. We jumped off the car, raced back to the shop that was only some minutes away (the good thing with Enschede is, that you can reach almost every spot in seconds, the city centre is built like a circle). I told the clerk that the Gameboy was broken and that I wanted to give it back. He told me that normally the game consoles get tested and that he was sorry that I got a broken DMG. He gave me back my money, I left the broken DMG in Enschede and was sad…

But it is great that they gave me back the money w/ any discussion. And I learned to test video game consoles were I want to buy them. Just imagine I had waited until home. My friend wants to go to Enschede again soon, but I had a broken DMG laying around for about a month. I hope I can get another working DMG next time.

Well if you are in Enschede, go to this gameshop, it is not far from the market.

And don‘t forget to follow the little red UFO!
