Scott Pilgrim vs. Me

It’s amazing. Some months ago I only knew that there was a comic book series called „Scott Pilgrim“. I saw the cover artwork and thought ‚‘what sort of mist is that here?'‘ (that was Denglish for ‚‘WTF'‘). I read that the topic was more recommended for young adults and the picture looked like a kids drawing. OK, besides the drawing style, Scott Pilgrim really is a great comic book, I haven‘t read all issues yet, I guess one is even still to be released in the USA. But it was awesome. At the same time I heard that somebody was making a live-action movie of this comic book. I was unsure if this was a good idea. Many comic book movies beside the ‚‘normal'‘ superhero movies sucked. I was afraid that this movie was going in the same direction. I mean, I haven‘t seen it yet, I wanna. But the movie starts ridiculously late here in Germany. It will be in theaters in January… JANUARY… That is like 4 months from now. Normally I don‘t like importing stuff. It is complicated and most of the time expensive. But this time, I will import the American DVD as soon as it is released. I wanna own this movie. I could watch it online but it would not be the same.

And then, suddenly this morning, I heard that Anamanaguchi, one of my favorite chipmusic bands have written and performed the soundtrack for the upcoming videogame for Playstation and XBox360… ANAMANAGUCHI, seriously I‘m proud of beeing able to write this band name down without a typo. How awesome is this??? This is the first time I see that a chipmusic band is doing a thing that huge. I always dream of beeing asked doing a thing at least 1/4 as big as this. Oh boy… Nice dream, but dreams are schemes… Träume sind Schäume… and when it happens, it happens. And if not, then not ;)

Loveparade – About Media and People

I guess you all heard about what happened in Duisburg last weekend. For those who haven‘t: 20 people died at the Loveparade because of bad security conditions. I don‘t wanna talk about what happened in detail, I wasn‘t there. A collegue of mine was and she told me that she didn‘t notice anything about the mass panic. Well, I wanna talk about what the media has made of this event and what might have lead to it! (read on…)

Micromusic Get Together #2 Canceled (for me)

It is sad but I had to cancel my participation in the second and unfortunatly last Micromusic Get Together in Berlin. My life was a total mess the past weeks and I have to manage some things before I can spend time and money on such big things. Believe me, I would love going to Berlin this weekend. Yes, it would have been this weekend. Last year was so awesome and this year will be even more awesome. I‘m sure. But I won‘t be there. Neither as an artist, nor as a visitor.

I‘m not very pleased with this. I was so much looking forward to MMG#2 the last year. Ever since I returned from Berlin last year. This time they are doing it in 2 nights to give all performing artists enough time. But the fact that I‘m not there, is no reason for you not going there!!! Here’s the program: GETTOGETHERONI

Prince – 20Ten

There’s actually not that much to say about this album… Except for. IT ROCKS! I haven‘t bought a Prince album for a time so I was curious how he sounded in 2010. Awesome. Electro, Techno and Pop mixed with Soul, R‘n'B and Funk. There is no dust left in my speakers. I bought the Rolling Stone magazine containing the CD on Saturday and since then I heard the album ’bout 10 times or so. I love it. It is worth the money it has not cost. First I was afraid that it would become hard to get an issue of the Rolling Stone. But it was easy. Seems that there are not THAT many Prince fans. Anyways, I‘m happy that I have this album. It was cheap, the music is awesome and Prince is an artist I really do respect.

I have to think of a story that was told in „Chapelle’s Show“. Charlie Murphy, the brother of Eddy Murphy, always told stories there. One story was about how he got ass-kicked in a basketball match by Prince. After the match, Prince made them pancakes!!! PANCAKES. FREAKING PANCAKES!!! ARGH! Imagine somebody challenges you in basketball, kicks your ass and makes you pancakes. And it is Prince. One of the best musical artists on earth. And I mean, he made the pancakes and not one of his cooks.

New MM vs. FoX album – Working Title

Yes, I‘m still doing music besides all my interests. Here is the latest results of my work. The new album I did with my co-op partner FoX from Cologne. The sound is a little more electronic than it was on „Cacophonetic“ our last album. We started producing the first tracks back in 2008 and finished the last one just yesterday. We felt that it was time to put this thing out finally. So here it is, check it out, don‘t miss it. And so on. Also on this album: a great remix of a great song. We remixed Darklime’s „Running Robot“ which is on this album as a bonus track!!!

New Prince album exclusively via music magazines

I‘m not that much into Prince. OK, he is a brillant musician. Maybe one of the last existing musical artists. I once saw him performing a halftime show at the Super Bowl some years ago and it rocked my balls off. Well, Prince thinks that normal distribution ways are dead. He has lost faith in the traditional physical distribution by record companies. I can understand this. But he also doesn‘t believe in digital platforms like iTunes anymore. Hmm… I see that Many listeners don‘t like buying full albums, but prefer picking out the raisins and only buying their favorite songs from an album. I hate that. I love full albums. Listening to a new album from the beginning to the end, having the complete playlist in mind, knowing which song comes next by the end of a song… this is what the album format is for. But the digital way, nowadays, is the only way to sell many many copies of an album. I still remember how people tried to prevent the latest winner of „Deutschland sucht den Superstar“ (Germanies version of Pop Idol) from reaching place 1 in the German charts by asking people to download a certain song. I don‘t remember which song it was… something by a mediocre 90ies techno act. Blümchen or such. And it worked, for the download charts at least. This shows how powerful digital distribution is.

Anyways, Prince decided to give away his new album almost for free. It will be included in several music magazines all around the globe. In Germay it will be release by the Rolling Stone magazine… OK, Prince is rich. He doesn‘t need to sell his music anymore, he has earned enough money. But saying that the digital way of music distribution is dead, is just wrong. Of course I‘m gonna buy a copy of this issue of Rolling Stone. It will be release on 22 July 2010. I hope that the number of released copies is high enough that a lot of people get this magazine. I will buy it immediatly on 22 July, even when I have to go to every single shop that sells magazines :)

Pop Squeek Cool

I loved the Chipmunks back in the day. I unfortunatly still haven‘t seen the two CGI movies that came up recently. I just found that they produced some Chipettes and Chipmunk cover versions of current pop hits. Here’s what I found on Youtube!!!

This one ROCKS!!!

Just Youtube the rest yourself!!!

Up on Melancholy Hill there’s a plastic tree

The new Gorillaz album really kicks ass. Today they released their latest video. You know I have a theory on Noodle. Well, she seems to have died in the video „El Manana“ and Murdoc reconstructed her as a cyborg. But in this video we see a female, Japanese origined character with a mask. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL NOODLE!! The cyborg version of her is featured in this video, too. Unfortunatly she is portrayed in her CGI look of the „Stylo“ video.

You wanna see the video?

I‘d like to watch it on Youtube but due to the fact, that all EMI stuff is blocked for Germany, we have to use the official site: There you‘ll find links to all kind of video sources and stuff. I only embed this cover version of „On Melancholy Hill“, which I really like!

I‘m curious what happens next time in the Gorillaz Universe!

How to travel to Berlin…

Last year I spent more than 100 Euros just for my train tickets to Berlin and back home. This year I‘m gonna make it a bit differently: I checked a hitchhiker website and on the day I want to arrive in Berlin (July 30th) somebody is actually going to drive to Berlin. The good thing: He will start at the train station which is just 5 minutes by foot from my apartment. The best thing: On Sunday (August 1st) he’s gonna drive back!!! I already sent him a message and I hope that he wants to take me with him!!! It is really cheap. For both rides I will pay only 50 €!!!!!!!! THAT‘S AWESOME!!! So I‘ll have enough money for Berlin! And beer! And women! … OK no women… BUT BEER!!!!!
