I have LSDJ and NL 2.3 for quite a while. But since I only have a GBA I never really recorded any of the songs I made with LSDJ. And I actually never really did a song with NL 2.3 so far because I can‘t handle it yet. On Monday I was joking around in LSDJ. I always wanted to do a song in the style of Escape Hawaii, just as an funny tribute and to tell him that he shouldn‘t stop chip business. Well, I tried to copy the intro bassline of „The City Never Sleeps“ but again I failed. I also didn‘t want to copy it 1:1, I just wanted to make it a little bit like it. But in the end I only had this bassline and a rather weak melody line. So I had 2 choices: (read on…)

It’s Feb 10th today and I just wanna give you a little status report about my album. First of all the album is called „Who Are You And Why Are You TV?“. Long title, but I love it. The artwork will be done by Martin Schemitsch who also draws Lo*Bert, the comic shorts in Lotek64.
At the moment I have 5 songs done and another one in the making. I will sing a lot on this album, 2 of my 5 songs I have so far contain vocals already.
I‘m sure this album will be much better than my last years RPM album and even better than all my albums so far. I tried out a new way of production. This time the whole album is based upon samples and loops from libraries, that I take to be inspired. Most of the time it is just one riff or melody-sample and I‘m building the rest of the song around them. Sometimes it is just a percussion loop that defines the rhythm and/or sound of the song. I also use a lot of improvising. Letting the main melody play and record many notes to it. After that I correct the timing, delete some mistakes and add some additional notes. The song I‘m currently working on is mainly based on that concept. Melodies turn out to be much more alive and funky with that method.
I hope I can upload some songs soon. There is an RPMcast again, unfortunatly not longer run by Joshua Wentz. He decided not to take part in any way in this years RPM which I think to be very sad. I loved his calm voice in 2009s podcast-episodes, even though he had a cold in the last days of February.
I also met many great artists from the chipmusic scene on the RPM website. Dauragon is preparing something and the awesome zan-zan-zawa-veia (long but great artist name), too. I guess there are some more who I just didn‘t notice.
So far for this time,

Yesterday I was interviewed by Robert Glashüttner. He is currently writing his bacherlor dissertation. His topic is „changing of chiptunes in transition from a technical restriction to an aesthetically dominated music genre“. Sounds complicated. And it actually was. The interview was a lot different to the one I gave to Thomas Dörflinger from bitte8bit last year. I really had to think back all the years I am active in this scene. And during this interview I noticed myself how much this scene changed in the past few years. I mean, I started in 2005. This October I‘m celebrating my 5th anniversary of beeing a chipmusic artist.
I met Robert the first time last summer on the „micromusic get together“ in Berlin. He saw my performance and liked it a lot. I asked him which other artists he interviewed. Besides me he interviewed David Sugar, some people from the Austrian Gameboy Music Club and Thomas Dörflinger from bitte8bit. I was the only German chip-artist he interviewed which honored me a lot!!!
I hope this dissertation gets released as a book. He told me I would receive a copy in PDF format but I don‘t think that this document is meant to be public in first place. There was a dissertation about chipmusic some years ago that was released in book form… I have to look it up.
It is hard to find the right name and look for an album. I guess I will do it this time like this (Except for step 1):
1 – Go to Wikipedia. Hit “random”
or click en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The first random Wikipedia article you get is the name of your band.
2 – Go to Quotations Page and select „random quotations“
or click www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album or song.
3 – Go to Flickr and click on “explore the last seven days”
or click www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
4 – Use Photoshop or similar to put it all together.
Here’s what’s going on in my little world at the moment: (read on…)
I had my first official interview. Thomas Dörflinger from Graz, Austria makes this wonderful radio show called bitte8bit where he talks about retro games, retro culture and of course chipmusic. I met him in Berlin this summer where I had my first concert and he also played there. He also released a small but awesome EP on our label Pixelmod Records (DOWNLOADERONI). back to interview. we only talked for 20 minutes via Skype (great program by the way) about my music, my label and my work at lotek64. I‘m sure he will play a lot of my tracks in this show cause I didn‘t say too much. I guess after cutting there will be only about 10 minutes of interview in this show and the rest music and so on. I‘m really looking forward hearing this episode, of course I will post it here as soon as it is out.

To be honest I have too much projects running at the moment. I had 3 days off from Monday to Wednesday this week and I prepared a new release for the end of the year. To the same time I still have the finished track of „Tweakological Techniques“. The plan is to release them via Gainlad and not via Jamendo. Jamendo now is our first place for the next „MM vs. FoX“. (read on…)
for my yesterday post I already made a small artwork of the four-colored NES Link sprites. but this was just a fast shot to illustrate my idea. a deeper concept to this follows now:
hello fans (in case I have any),
at the moment everything is stressy and shitty. I‘ll be moving soon and my own PC is already standing in the cellar of my grandma, dissambled. I will move next week so I don‘t know when it is ready again. I hope to be able to record and produce in at least one or two weeks. I already mastered the tracks for „Tweakological Techniques“. as soon as I have my own internet access I will upload them to Jamendo.
the next MM vs. FoX thing is also pending, we plan to release it commercially via the music platform of Joshua Wentz which name I just forgot, SoundBits or stuff. in case we release it there, it will be three tracks for 2 Dollars. we earn one buck for each sold album and every single earned buck will be used to finance some stuff at Pixelmod Records.
we wanna have a proper TLD soon. maybe „.de“, maybe „.com“, everything is better than „.tk“.
follow my Twitter (link is in the sidebar) to be up to date. I regularly send tweets with my mobile phone. most of it is stupid shit, but sometimes I post good things
hope you can stand waiting, I‘ll be back quite soon
don‘t forget to follow the little red UFO!!!
